I am a licensed clinical psychologist with experience treating a variety of mental health concerns in a number of settings. I have experience working with adults and children in inpatient, outpatient, residential, correctional, and forensic settings. I enjoy working with both individuals and groups and I also have expertise in psychological assessments.

I am well trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and have been using this approach for treating individuals with borderline personality disorder and high-risk behaviors for over thirteen years. I have found working with this approach and this population incredibly rewarding. I am a DBT consultant and trainer for a number of state agencies. I am also trained in Prolonged Exposure therapy for the treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and am passionate about helping individuals regain fulfilling lives after experiencing significant trauma. Furthermore, I have training and experience with therapeutic assessment and use this approach to help individuals understand themselves, their strengths, and their challenges more completely.

Specialty Services

I help teens and adults work on overcoming and coping with mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and substance abuse. I also enjoy working with couples and families to help them communicate better and resolve interpersonal conflict in a healthy way. I’m a certified Prepare-Enrich marital and premarital counselor. I also work with older adults, like “empty nesters” and individuals dealing with end of life issues. I am a “systemic” family therapist, meaning that I examine all dimensions of my clients’ lives – biological, psychological, relational, and social – to help them grow and change in positive ways. I encourage my clients to set concrete goals, find their strengths, and achieve positive change in their lives. Watching clients grow and achieve their goals is what I love about therapy work.

As a therapist, I am warm, empathetic, and understanding. I believe that all thoughts, feelings, and behavior serve a purpose for individuals. My goal is to help clients identify their purpose and then work to find healthier, more constructive ways to accomplish that purpose. I am a good listener and I take time to really understand what is going on in my clients’ lives, so I can identify ways to foster positive change. I draw on a variety of individual and family therapy techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (changing thoughts changes behavior), solution-focused therapy (focusing on real solutions rather than problems), and narrative therapy (re-authoring your story to better fit your goals and personal values). I believe every person is unique and I help each client construct a treatment plan specific to their needs. I expect clients to work hard in therapy and I may assign homework in between sessions.
