Specialty Services

I am a Social Worker by training, and recently transitioned to a career in clinical services after working in a variety of non-profit settings around the US and overseas, including East Africa and the Middle East. I have experience working with different adult populations: immigrants, justice-involved individuals and those struggling with significant life stressors (socioeconomic barriers, chronic pain, grief, caregiving) or grappling with substance abuse. I use mostly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques, so we may learn how to manage difficult emotions and challenge maladaptive behaviors. I fundamentally believe in empowerment and am passionate about resilience: despite life’s difficult circumstances, we do not have to be defined by our traumas. The journey we take is as important as where we end up, for as we strive to achieve ideal psychological functioning, we continually move forward. I am curious about culture and I recognize the role it plays in shaping one’s values, beliefs, and overall identity. I often draw on ideas from existential and narrative therapy frameworks and I adopt a humanistic approach that utilizes empathy, acceptance and encourages clients to grow, so that they may see themselves in a positive light and ultimately, as authors of their own story.
